It's been almost two years since Governor Schwarzenegger signed a bill establishing a statewide professional certificate for massage therapists. This article looks at the effect the law is having on massage therapists in Los Angeles and statewide. It shows that while the statewide certificate is a potential boon to therapists of all kinds in the state, many therapists are waiting until their current, already-paid-for municipal licenses expire before getting their statewide, California massage therapy certificates.
